Pencil Drawing of Chloe the Cockapoo on A4 Toned Tan Paper

Above is my most recent pet portrait of my own cockapoo puppy Chloe. I love drawing animals especially dogs and have decided to set up an etsy shop selling custom pet portraits. I am so excited to draw for new potential buyers and I will post each portrait I do up here (as well as my facebook page /missportraits and my instagram @hanfrankie) with progress shots and tutorials if there are any requests. I also want to share my love of animals and art. I am a self taught artist and use primarily charcoal and graphite pencils.

Here I have used Faber Castell Polychromos on A4 Strathmore Toned Tan paper (click link for cheap UK price). I live in the UK and so apparently the closest equivalent to 'Prismacolour' pencils here is Faber Castell's Polychromos. I have never used Prismacolours but I have seen a lot of hype about them on social media sites but they are just far to expensive to buy in the UK. However, I really enjoy working with Polychromos; the pencils are quite soft though do not break easily (which I have heard is a downside to Prismacolours). I sometimes use a blender when drawing, though I haven't here as I do not want to loose the 'fur-like' effect. Strathmore Toned Tan paper however is a US product though I have found a site in the UK which delivers this very cheaply. (If you are interested the site is www.artistpapers.co.uk which sells a wide variety of good quality paper, the site is based in the West Midlands and my delivery arrived in about 4 days.)

Next post I will demonstrate how I create the fur effect with my polychromos so stay tuned!
